Here are some great general (i.e., not specific to Oklahoma City) gardening resources, ranging from stores to sources of information.
Botanical Interests:
Botanical Interests seems to be the gold standard in online generalist seed shops.
It’s not uncommon to see their seeds on sale at pretty much any garden-type store you walk into.
Aside from having a great selection with good prices, I’ve been separately sent “thank you” sunflower seeds and lettuce seeds that ended up having exciting harvests.
Victory Seed Company:
I’ve only bought seeds from Victory Seed Company once, but they didn’t let me down, so I’m including them here, especially for people who want dwarf/micro tomatoes.
Gardener’s Supply Company:
Gardener’s Supply Company is a great online store for all sorts of gardening goods you might need.
They sell great gardening gloves, trugs/tubs, and tools, and they’re usually pretty well priced.
They also sell good soil, though I was disappointed to learn that the potting soil I’d been buying from them included peat moss.
Fine Gardening Magazine:
Fine Gardening appears to be the most popular gardening magazine in the US (maybe after Better Homes & Gardens?).
It’s a great resource for all things gardening, even if it does seem to be aimed toward people who have multi-acre backyards (I can’t relate!).
It also has an “All Access” subscription that includes more content online.
Horticulture Magazine:
Finally, Horticulture Magazine is a gardening magazine focused on “the science of gardening”.
It’s similar to Fine Gardening but less focused on designing for suburban gardens specifically, so it might be of more general interest even to people who might not have large areas to garden in.
I subscribe to both this and Fine Gardening but if I had to pick one I’d pick Horticulture.
Happy gardening!
