Here are some gardening resources specific to Oklahoma City (or at least the broader state of Oklahoma).
Calvert’s Plant Interiors:
Calvert’s, which is located about 25 blocks north of downtown, appears to have a renowned design business.
I’ve only visited it as a greenhouse, but it’s a good one.
They have a relatively small selection, but it’s still more than big enough to fill a new space with.
TLC Garden Centers:
For a bigger greenhouse experience, there’s TLC Garden Centers (I went to the one on Memorial but there’s also one on the NW Expressway, both of them are equally just a bit far from downtown).
They also have a large selection of things other than plants, including planters, gardening tools, etc.
They also have a tree nursery, and I used them to pick up a Monrovia plant order with no hassle.
The Greenhouse Inc. (Norman):
The Greenhouse way out in Norman is another great “huge plant warehouse” experience.
Organics OKC:
Organics OKC is a great gardening center for everything but plants themselves.
If you need soils, lights, nutrients, that kind of thing, Organics OKC has you covered.
It’s also a friendly neighborhood place with a resident cat to top it all off.
Out On A Limb Boutique:
Out On A Limb, right in the good old Plaza District, has a surprisingly deep variety of stock.
Whether you’re looking for planters, plants, plant nutrition, or more lifestyle-type things, this store has you covered.
Most importantly, it’s way more well priced than its looks/size/location would suggest.
Curbside Flowers:
Curbside Flowers is a flower shop right downtown that is associated with Curbside Chronicle, Curbside Apparel, and Sasquatch Shaved Ice.
They have a modest selection of popular plants in cute planters, but they have a lot of the things they do have.
I’ve personally gotten an orchid, a ghost plant succulent, and a prayer plant from them, since I can’t get snake plants or pothos plants because of my cats.
I’ve also gotten the following Mums n’ Roses shirt (which is a collaboration between Curbside Flowers and Curbside Apparel) for both my wife and I, and I recommend you do too:
Fertile Ground Cooperative:
Fertile Ground is a composting company that offers curbside composting and other services.
They also sell compostable kitchenware, compost itself, and even garden soil in bulk.
They also recently hosted a plant swap party to unveil a new mural they’d had painted on their building, and it was a pretty good time.
Myriad Botanical Gardens:
Myriad Gardens are a great way to experience nature right downtown and get some inspiration.
The Crystal Bridge is also well worth the price of admission, meaning it’s not a bad idea to become a member.
They also offer various courses and plant sales, so it’s key to keep an eye on what they’re up to.
OSU Extension (Fact Sheets):
Finally, the Oklahoma State University Extension is a great gardening resource.
Among other things, they administer the state’s various Master Gardener programs.
More importantly, their fact sheets can help any gardener become an expert in very niche topics.
See you at Scissortail!
